8:00 am to 10:00 am Check-out for  French House ON THE LAWN in front of French House

8:00 am to 1:00 pm Check-out for Graduate Housing (Munger) -- at Munger Front Desk where you checked in. Do NOT leave your key in your room.

Menu: Quiche, Scones, Yogurt

10:00 am  Midsummer Octet to Campbell Recital Hall (Check set-up; Warm-up as needed).

10:30 am SHUTTER CLICKS for Group Photo Braun Patio

All move to Braun Reh Hall for IMPORTANT NOTES and Crooners Warm-up

11:00 am Finale Concert at Campbell Recital Hall (all groups perform one movement)

READ THIS -- HOW THE SHOW RUNS

  • While Midsummer Octet is ON STAGE...
  • Trio Cuvee is tuning in BRAUN REHEARSAL HALL and...
  • Crescent Trio is getting instruments from your studio and meeting by the SNACK TABLE behind BRH.
  • THEN when Cuvee goes on stage, Crescent moves into BRH, and Geist should leave the hall to get their instruments.
  • Etc, Etc.  So come out of the recital hall TWO GROUPS before you play.

4:00 pm Estimated End of Finale Concert.

Seminar Check-out throughout the day.

  • Studio Clean-up: Follow instructions posted on your door.
  • Return library music to the lounge.
  • Return your studio key to Lori at the ticket desk for return deposit.

6:00 pm STAFF LEAVES. Building empty. Thank you and goodbye!


Getting Here

  • Most attendees fly into San Francisco International Airport (SFO). San Jose International Airport (SJC) is also a fine option. We do do not advise Oakland (OAK) because of complications of getting to campus from Oakland.
  • Students are strongly encouraged to arrive on campus Friday evening between 5:00 pm and 9:00 pm. If that is not possible, plan to arrive on campus no later than 2:00 pm on Saturday.

Transport Options

  • Download and set up a LYFT account before you arrive.
  • Some ensembles take advantage of the Super Shuttle. Feedback is more success with Inbound to campus than Outbound to airport.
  • With advance planning you can navigate public transportation for least cost. From SFO take BART one stop to MILLBRAE STATION, switch to CALTRAIN towards San Jose. Get off at PALO ALTO STATION. You will be on the correct side of the train tracks. Take free Marguerite Shuttle X or Y to Tresidder Student Union stop (WEEKDAYS ONLY). This endeavor will probably take two hours.
  • If you're feeling swanky, set up a ride with Palo Alto Limo. SUV averages $85 plus tip. Let them know you have multiple people with instruments and luggage.

To keep things confusing, should you arrive on campus before 5:00 pm on Friday, come to Braun Music Center (541 Lasuen Mall)  to hang out in the lounge (2nd floor, room 205), or go to the nearby student union and get a coffee. The Grad Student Asst (Lori) will be at Braun beginning at 2:00pm. Sara will be on campus at 5:00pm.

There is ABSOLUTELY NO SMOKING in campus housing. Stanford is a tobacco-free campus.

All scholarship-assisted housing is in shared rooms in an undergraduate dorm (doubles, triples and quads). Individual rooms are not available. You may choose to room with your ensemble members or to be assigned a roommate(s).  A survey will be sent asking for your roommate preferences (M-F is fine upon request; if assigned roommates will be F-F or M-M.)

Students staying on campus are encouraged to arrive on Friday, June 23. Seminar Registration and activities will begin on Saturday, June 24.

Check-in Saturday, June 24,

Housing Fees due in full AND withdrawal deadline is June 1.

If an accepted participant is unable to attend and if notice is given no later than June 1, 2017, a refund of 75% tuition may be requested and will be considered on a case by case basis if extenuating circumstances prevent your attendance.

What to bring

All participants should bring:

  • Comfortable shoes for walking. All events are on or near campus within three-quarters of a mile.
  • Shower flip-flops if you are in the undergrad housing (shared bathrooms)
  • Light jacket for evenings
  • Personal toiletries
  • Cash: Parking scratchers are $5 per day; rehearsal room key deposit is $20 (one member per ensemble).
  • Attire for Finale concert: Performers are expected to be in "casual formal" concert dress. No tuxedos or ball gowns, no flip flops. Ladies, if you wear a skirt, it should be below the knee for the comfort of the audience. 
  • Other than the Finale concert, all events are casual.

 

Undergrad housing provides:

  • Towels

  • Daily Student breakfast at Braun Music Center

 

Munger Graduate Dorm provides:

  • Towels
  • Bedding (linen service Wed. morning)
  • Toilet Paper (world's cheapest)
  • Soap, Shampoo, Conditioner
  • Kitchen w/ refrigerator, microwave, stove top & oven BUT NOTE no dishes, cookware, flatware, or  small appliances are provided. If you want to cook on your own, consider mailing a "camping box" of basic supplies ahead of time.

  • On weekdays the CoHo (coffee house) serves breakfast, or join in the daily Student breakfast at Braun Music Center

Food Services

During the seminar, food services are available at a variety of on-campus locations, or at restaurants in nearby Palo Alto. Throughout the Seminar, there will be several group meals provided, but attendees are responsible for most of their own meals. Please plan accordingly.


Tuition

& Scholarships

Tuition for the SLSQ Chamber Music Seminar at Stanford is $1,000 per person. (Note: Application fees are separate from tuition payments and cover only the costs of processing applications). Due May 1. Scroll to top of page for mailing address.

Students

Musicians receiving scholarship support are asked to help throughout the week with duties such as ushering, setting up chairs, and light cleaning of the shared lounge (to be assigned).

Please help us secure future funding by submitting a Thank You Letter which we can pass on to our generous supporters. Letters can be from individuals or from the whole ensemble, and should be emailed by Friday, June 30 to SLSQseminar@gmail.com (simple email text is fine; does not need to be in pdf form).


PARKING

$5 daily parking "scratchers" can be purchased at Seminar Registration (cash only).

  • Parking scratchers are needed needed Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
  • Parking in A, C, and metered lots is free Saturday and Sunday, as well as after 4:00 pm on weekdays.
  • The Tresidder pay lot is adjacent to the music building; full day of parking would be about $12

Travel Assistance

Pre-formed ensembles receiving tuition scholarship support also qualified for partial travel assistance which will be in the form of reimbursement for proof of purchase of airfare.

Note the following:

  • Do NOT use air miles to arrange your airfare. We can only reimburse an actual purchase.
  • Your ITINERARY must show your TRAVEL DATE and TIME to BAY AREA AIRPORT and PROOF OF PURCHASE (example: $200 Mastercard XXXX)
  • Once you have purchased your ticket, forward your ITINERARY to SLSQseminar@gmail.com with YOUR FULL NAME in the subject line (Example: Jane Smith_Travel Itinerary)
  • Cellists: Send all the same info for your Cello's ticket.
  • It is easier if you have one ticket that is round trip, but it is possible to reimburse one-ways flights.
  • The final step is to save your BOARDING PASSES. You can give me the physical paper passes OR forward a pdf / screenshot of the electronic boarding pass.
  • Note: If you are part of a formed quartet (particularly one coming from outside the U.S.) and would like to designate on or two people for reimbursement that you can divide later amongst yourselves, we can talk about that as it may cut down on your overall paperwork.

Individual participants do not receive travel assistance.
